LiLo Lied: Lohan Told Cops She Wasn't Driving Porsche In Wreck With 18-Wheeler

Congress has cut federal funding for public media — a $3.4 million loss for LAist. We count on readers like you to protect our nonprofit newsroom. Become a monthly member and sustain local journalism.

Uh, oh, LiLo: Actress Lindsay Lohan was busted in a lie Friday when she first gave her report to the cops about the accident involving her Porsche and a truck on Pacific Coast Highway. And that lie could cost Lohan her probation, since lying to the police is a big no-no.TMZ reports that Lohan likely came up with the story to say her assistant was behind the wheel right after impact, since the duo were both spotted climbing out of the wreck from the passenger side.

When giving her report in the hospital, Lohan said she was the passenger, but, oops...later on her assistant told police Lohan was driving. Lohan also says she thinks her brakes failed.

TMZ notes that the police are expected to include Lohan's fact-fabricating in their report, and that could have some serious consequences:

It's a crime to provide false info to a police officer. In addition, lying to police could trigger a probation violation in her shoplifting case, which means she faces the possibility of jail on 2 fronts.

It wasn't so long ago LiLo was declared an upstanding citizen (relatively speaking) by the judge presiding over her shoplifting case. Lohan has completed the requirements of her probation, but remains on an "informal probation" which means that she has to adhere to the law for two and a half years. Friday's fib to the cops puts all that in jeopardy.
