Evan Kleiman Postpones Dinner at This Is Not a Pop Up, 14 Year-Old Chef Serves as Sub

Fans of Evan Kleiman's Italian eatery, Angeli, were thrilled to find out that she'd be making a brief return to the L.A. dining scene this month at This is Not a Pop-Up. The KCRW "Good Food" radio and LACMA pie contest host had planned on making a comeback on April 18-21 to serve up some of her legendary eats for Angeleno eaters, and was asking them on social media what they wanted her to cook.
Unfortunately, Tweeps requesting her gnocchi and house made breads will have to wait. Kleiman and the team at This is Not a Pop-Up announced that she'll be postponing her stint for personal reasons.
Filling in for Kleiman will be the young dynamo chef Flynn McGarry, the 14-year-old chef who's already graced the likes of the New Yorker and is charging the better part of $200 for his tasting menus. (The five course tasting at TINAP is only $50.)
Though the prospect of seeing a young dynamo cook at a more affordable price is exciting, the circumstances are certainly bittersweet.
Kleiman addressed her fans via Facebook, saying:
I am very sorry to announce that I cannot go forward with my planned Taste of Angeli popup with the lovely ladies of "this is not a popup" at Tiago this weekend in Hollywood. Some personal challenges mean I need to focus my attention elsewhere. I feel terrible for putting Helen and Helena in this position and hope to make it up to them at a future date. They will be reaching out to folks who made reservations to let them know what will be happening at "tinap" at Tiago this weekend.
Once again, my heartfelt apologies to those of you who were looking forward to spending a couple of hours with me.
