Pencil This In: 'Die Hard' Marathon, Comedy Central Pilot Taping, Lucha VaVOOM's V-Day Spectacular
LUCHA VAVOOM*
Mexican wrestling/comedy/burlesque juggernaut Lucha VaVOOM returns to Downtown for a two-night Valentine's Day engagement at the Mayan. Expect quick bouts of wrestling alternated with sexy circus performers and L.A. mainstay comics like Blaine Capatch. The 21+ show starts at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are sold out, but still available at Brat, Wacko and Garage Pizza.
DIE HARD MARATON
Can't wait for more John McClane? Regal's Die Hard marathon at L.A. Live will tide you over until A Good Day to Die Hard hits theaters tomorrow. The original Die Hard already started at noon, but you can still catch Catch Die Hard II at 2:35 p.m. and take in the rest of the series, including the new installment, for the rest of the day and into the night. Tickets are $20 at the box office only ($25 for non-members or when purchased online). A medium popcorn and drink combo is being offered for just $5.
COMEDY
Happy pilot season! One of our favorite comedy shows, The Meltdown, is taping their Comedy Central pilot at Meltdown Comics' NerdMelt Theatre, and they need a limited amount of audience members to laugh along for free. Tapings will occur at 7 p.m. (must be in line at 6:30 p.m.) and 9:30 p.m. (must be in line at 9 p.m.), and audience members should plan to be available all night (you'll get dinner!). Just follow the protocol to ensure a seat.
VALENTINE'S DAY FILM
If Valentine's Day isn't your favorite holiday of the year, consider heading to Cinefamily at 7:30 p.m. to watch Doug Benson and friends skewer Gary Marshall's schmaltz-fest Valentine's Day in a very special Movie Interruption. Tickets costs $14 (free for members).
BOOKS
New York Times best-selling author Chad Kultgen will make a stop in L.A. during his book tour at Book Soup tonight. Kultgen's new read, The Average American Marriage: A Novel, brings back his "swaggering hero" from The Average American Male as a married man. Books will be signed and discussed tonight, starting at 7 p.m. A paperback copy of the book costs $14.99.

As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.
Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.
We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.
No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.
Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.
Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
