A Los Angeles man was sentenced today to serve 26 years to life behind bars after bludgeoning another man to death with a sledgehammer. According to the Daily News, 21-year-old Adam Quintana was found guilty of the 2008 murder of Fernando Garcia, also 21 at the time of his death, whose body was later found dumped in a trash bin in Boyle Hieghts.

Phillip and Nancy Garrido of northern California confessed today to the 1991 kidnapping of Jaycee Lee Dugard, who was 11 at the time of her abduction. The LA Times reports that the two admitted to snatching Dugard from the street and holding her captive for 18 years. Phillip is charged with raping Dugard on multiple occasions, and is known to be the father of her two children.

After 25 years as the Catholic Archbishop of Los Angeles, Cardinal Roger Mahony has handed over the reigns to Archbishop Jose Gomez, the first Latino to hold the position. The transition ceremony took place yesterday at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in downtown, reports the Daily News, and was attended by over 4,000 people.

Sylvester Stallone has battled boxers, enemy combatants and mobsters. Now, he's turning his fighting skills towards his most worthy opponent yet: pudding. Stallone and businessman John Arnold are being sued by William Brescia, who claims that the two stole his recipe for a high-energy, low-carb pudding and marketed it as their own. A Los Angeles Superior Court judge today ruled that the lawsuit can continue, reports the Daily News.
