Harvey Milk became a household name when his story was immortalized by writer Dustin Lance Black and Sean Penn in the 2008 film, "Milk." Now, KABC reports that Long Beach residents will continue the effort to honor Milk, with a proposal to name a park after the openly gay San Francisco city supervisor who was gunned down in 1978. The Long Beach Press Telegram reports that the proposal was introduced on Monday by City Councilmember Robert Garcia, who is openly gay.

An 18-year-old boy was shot and killed while attempting to rob a house, the Daily Breeze reports. The shooting happened in Lynwood at about 10 p.m. last night, according to police. The young man was shot by a resident of the home, which was in the 11000 block of Harris Avenue, and died at the scene. His name has not been released.

Students and faculty are growing increasingly concerned after the third rape was reported in one week at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. The victim told police that she was assaulted inside her dorm room on Sunday, according to KCBS. She reported that she was intoxicated and unconscious during the attack, as were the other two victims.

After being cared for at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center for six weeks, Bryan Stow, the Giants fan who was brutally beaten by two men at the Dodgers opening game this year, has been transported back to the Bay area, near his hometown of Santa Clara. LA Now reports that Stow was able to keep his eyes open for longer than he has before being wheeled into a medical jet that took off from Burbank earlier today.

What's worse, being charged with robbery or having people describe you as "in your 80's" when you are in fact a 50-year-old woman? We kid, we kid -- the latter is clearly worse. But the theory is being tested on the woman now known as the Granny Bandit, 50-year-old Dodi Wasbotten, who plead not guilty to four counts of robbery today, according to KTLA.

Roll up your car windows and watch out for mudslides -- Los Angeles is about to get hit with an unseasonable rain storm tomorrow and Wednesday. According to KTLA, "In Los Angeles May is the third-driest month of the year, receiving about one-quarter-inch of rainfall on average, but Mother Nature seems to be staging an encore to an already wet winter and early spring."

A bomb scare closed down a pier at the Port of Long Beach this morning for six hours, after an overseas package was found with the word "bomb" written across the top, reports KCBS. The area was cordoned off by security and a bomb squad was called in to examine the package.

Jazz and blues singer Etta James has been hospitalized in Southern California with sepsis and urinary tract infection, reports KCBS. James' son, Sametto James, told The Press-Enterprise newspaper that his mother was admitted to an undisclosed hospital and would remain there for "as long as it takes to clear her infections."

An arrest has been made in the shooting death of MTV music coordinator Gabriel Ben-Meir, reports KCBS. Two individuals, Jabaar Vincent Thomas, 26, and Destiny Young, 29, were arrested on Wednesday in connection to nine other robberies involving a shotgun in the Mid-City, Wilshire and Southwest L.A. areas.

While driving home early this morning, a Baldwin Hills nightclub owner was shot to death, reports LA Now. The 67-year-old man was shot twice in the chest as he pulled into his driveway, driving a $300,000 Rolls Royce. The car then rolled into a neighbor's house across the street.
