More 10th graders passed their California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) this year than ever before, according to LAUSD. In a statement, LAUSD officials said that in the 2010-2011 school year, 65 percent of 10th graders passed the exam, which they are required to take in order to receive a high school diploma. The number is up from 62 percent last year, and has gone almost steadily up since the test was first required in 2004-2005 and just 44 percent of students passed.

A Wildomar couple may lose custody of their son if they are found guilty of growing marijuana illegally, reports KCBS. William Bunn, 36, and Mary Bunn, 28, were originally arrested in 2008, after investigators found 79 marijuana plants on their property, along with growing paraphernalia, a handgun and a shotgun. Their son was 22 months old at the time.

Following in the footsteps of our neighbors in San Francisco, the city of Santa Monica may consider a ban on male circumcision of minors, reports the Jewish Journal. A petition to gather signatures was filed with the city of Santa Monica on May 19. It says that circumcision would be outlawed in males under the age of 18, with no exception for religion, but with an exception for the health of the baby.

Twice-annual ArtNight Pasadena is back after being temporarily canceled last year due to funding concerns, reports the Pasadena Star-News. The event will be held tomorrow night at venues around Pas.
