A new report released by the Police Assessment Resource Center says that L.A. sheriff's deputies are more likely to shoot unarmed black or Latino men than they are to do the same to white or Asian men, reports CBS News. The report points to inadequate training, and says that the shootings are usually the result of the officer thinking that the person they're shooting at has a gun or is reaching for one.

Manny Ramos, one of the Fullerton police officers charged in the death of Kelly Thomas, is being held in isolation in at the Orange County jail while he awaits arraignment, reports KTLA. Ramos' attorney is out of town, and he's being held on $1 million bail. Ramos is facing the most severe sentence in connection with Thomas' beating death.

Looks like someone is not a huge fan of our current president -- according to ABC News, Obama's West Los Angeles office was vandalized last night. A witness called the cops after reportedly hearing the sounds of breaking glass and seeing an object being thrown through the window. Officers think that a BB gun may have been used as well.

NBC Los Angeles reports that LAFD fire trucks were used in movies that feature adult actress Charley Chase wandering around town and flashing people.

Since having a shunt put in his head Bryan Stow is becoming more and more responsive, according to a website his family maintains. Stow got the shunt about a week ago, which is intended to decrease the amount of fluid in his brain. Since getting it, they write, he's "more awake and more responsive then ever." Stow, who's being treated at the San Francisco General Hospital, has been able to move his left arm towards his body and keep his eyes open.

West Hollywood residents, get your fur-trimmed purses while you still can: the West Hollywood City Council has taken the initiative to ban sale of fur one step further, and approved a first reading of the ordinance. The initial proposal to ban fur sales in the city was approved on Tuesday at a city council meeting, after hours of debate.

A man was arrested yesterday after he was discovered molesting a 2-year-old child, reports CBS News. The child's mother found Antonio Peralta Garcia, 47, committing a sex act against her daughter when she returned home to her Banning apartment yesterday just before 2:00 p.m.

A man and woman are dead after a murder-suicide at an optometrist's office in Inglewood this afternoon, reports the Contra Costa Times. The man, whose name hasn't been released, allegedly walked up to the woman inside the Inglewood Optometric Center at about 11:00 a.m. this morning, pulled out a gun and shot her.

A man who was convicted of killing a local youth counselor while attempting to flee police has been sentenced to 20 years to life in prison, reports the Pasadena Star News. In June of 2010, Luis Noriega, 29, was driving through Baldwin Park in a stolen SUV. When police tried to pull him over, he began a high-speed chase. He ran a red light and slammed into Walter Williams' car, which erupted in flames. Williams died at the scene.

Here at LAist, we like to support local businesses. We like to see them thrive, because we love our city and we want our people to do well. What, then, are we supposed to make of a man who owns a business in Brentwood and spends an entire interview with the Huffington Post trash-talking L.A. residents, judging the very people who allow him to earn a livelihood, and promoting some of the worst stereotypes of Angelenos?
