Weekend Eats: Free Onion Rings, Wes Anderson-Inspired Floats, And A KBBQ Fest

The weekend is so close you can practically taste it. Though one of our top picks for the weekend, Tacolandia, is sold out, there's still plenty to do. Here are a few more edible events going on in the next few days to keep you occupied -- and sated, for that matter.
KBBQ Festival Time to get your appetites for Korean BBQ fired up, as this Sunday, June 23 is the day for the 5th Annual Korean BBQ Cook-off in Koreatown. Several of the city's best restaurants and food trucks will be on hand serving up their KBBQ dishes for attendees from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.. There'll be booze on hand too, including a beer tent by Singha, Kooksoondang soju cocktails and makgeolli rice wine. Admission is free, and food tickets are $15 each, which includes a drink. Floats And Films: On Saturday, Float in Pasadena will launch their South Lake summer movie screening series complete with popcorn, sweets, and specialty floats. The first feature will be Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom, with its accompanying float called the Khaki Scouts Honor Float. The drink will be made of Fosselman's Rocky Road ice cream, Sioux City Cream Soda, topped with whipped cream, and a jumbo toasted marshmallow sprinkled with cinnamon sugar graham cracker. Free Rings For National Onion Ring Day: This Saturday also happens to be National Onion Ring Day, and the Fat Dog is offering a free batch to those who buy a craft beer. It's one of our favorite pooch-friendly brunch spots, and those of your fried food freaks who head over for freebies won't be disappointed. You can find out the 411 on their site.
