Holy Hangover Cure: Two New Brunches Launch in L.A.

Angelenos love a good brunch, unlike our East Coast counterparts, who have practically declared war on the weekend ritual. And considering one of L.A.'s brunch stalwarts, Campanile, is moving out to make room for a new project by Walter Manzke, we could use another place to hold court on Sunday mornings.

Freddy Smalls will start their weekend cure tomorrow, bringing a menu of hair of the dog cocktails and farm-fresh fare to shake off the previous night's debauch. We're suckers for a coffee cocktail (and coffee drinks in general), so the iced coffee cocktail made with John Powers, chilled coffee, evaporated milk, and sarsaparilla sounds right up our alley. Then again, so does a white greyhound made with white grapefruit juice and wildflower honey. (It's Friday afternoon, do you blame us?) As far as eats go, the bar will be serving breakfast classics like a waffles spruced up with grilled strawberries, or the corned beef hash made a bit more lively by adding beets and grilled peaches.

So go ahead, get your drink on. There are now even more spots for you to recoup the morning after.

West Hollywood's Tortilla Repubilc will also be launching brunch service next weekend, serving dishes like Huevos Divorciados with poached eggs, tomatillo ranchero sauce, bacon, black beans, tortilla strips and queso fresco; Torta de Huevo with a fried egg, brioche bun, apple wood smoked bacon, cheddar, arugula, aioli, and breakfast potatoes; and Hominy and Cheddar “Hash Browns” with eggs, oyster mushrooms, green onion and guajillo chili sauce. To go along with it all, TR will be serving Mexican cocktails like a Spicy Bloody Maria with house made tomato puree, Mexican spices and poached shrimp, and a Prickly Pear Bellini with fresh prickly pear juice and champagne.
