Last Minute Baking Idea: Seven Layer Magic Cookie Bars

Here at LAist Food HQ, we've been baking up a storm the past two days. Russian tea cakes, lemon bars, nonpareils, sugar cookies, banana bread, and fudge have all been busted out. But our favorite has been these magic cookie bars. They're absolutely more-ish, and are incredibly simple to make. So if you're looking for a last minute treat to take to your holiday festivities, this is it. Here's the recipe:


1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1/2 cup butter, melted
14 oz can of sweetened condensed milk
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup butterscotch chocolate chips
1 1/3 cups flaked coconut
1 cup chopped pecans

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a small bowl, mix graham cracker crumbs and butter and mix well. Press crumb mixture firmly on bottom of 13X9 inch baking pan.

Pour sweetened condensed milk evenly over crumb crust mixture. Layer evenly with remaining ingredients. Press down firmly with a fork.

Bake for 25 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool, then chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to ease in the cutting process. Cut into bars or diamonds, and then store covered at room temp.
