Former 'Top Chef' Contestants Explore the 'Scene' in Westwood, Teach Models How to Cut Corn

Congress has cut federal funding for public media — a $3.4 million loss for LAist. We count on readers like you to protect our nonprofit newsroom. Become a monthly member and sustain local journalism.

Until about 10 minutes ago, Kathie Lee and Hoda had our ideal careers: drinking and gossiping on air -- and getting paid for it. But former "Top Chef" contestants Marcel Vigneron and Spike Mendelsohn just one-upped the Today show hosts with the launch of their latest video on Tasted.

The show is called "We're Drunk, Let's Eat," which is pretty much the story of every Friday night for us. But the two -- who are both now contestants on "The Next Iron Chef" -- get paid to galavant around town, find some strange inspiration from whatever bar they're at, and then make drunchies. For this episode they were exploring the scene in Westwood, of all places, and they end up meeting some dude named Klaus at Bruhaus, and then proceed to raid his fridge and steal his girls.

This isn't meant to be an actual culinary exploration like Drink Inc., or any sort of how-to for that matter. It's just pure entertainment, watching a couple of bros goof around and try to impress some hot chicks by making something called "devil's penis."

We recently did an on-camera interview with Vigneron and found at that he was actually Mendelsohn's RA in college. If this is any indicator of their behavior, we made a huge misstep in not attending the CIA. The two clearly break all the rules in this episode, spilling drinks all over their host's house and cursing and swearing up a storm.

And then there's the drunk models that they're teaching to cook. (See above.) Seriously, if being that pretty means not knowing how to use a knife properly, we're happy we were born this way.

As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.

Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.

We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.

No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.

Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.

Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
