'Back To The Future' Beer Tasting, Experimental Ceviche & More Tasty Events This Week

Hopefully you've recovered from this past weekend's food festivals because more opportunities to drink and chow down are heading your way this week. From a special Back To The Future beer release party to an experimental pop-up dinner on a rooftop, we've got you covered with some tasty options this week.

TUESDAY, OCT. 20

"Nom Yourself" with Mary Mattern at Mohawk Bend

One of our favorite places for craft beer in Echo Park also happens to be an excellent place to nosh while drinking said beer. This week, Mohawk Bend hosts self-taught vegan chef Mary Mattern for a special four-course dinner with beer and cocktail pairings. Some of the mouthwatering-highlights from the menu include: Buffalo Cauliflower Kale Salad paired with either Russian River Brewing's Row 2, Hill 56 Pale Ale from or the pheNOM cocktail with gin, basil and lemon juice; and Southern Fried Buttermilk Tofu paired with Russian River Brewing's Blind Pig IPA or the el NOMbre with tequila, hibiscus liquor, jalapeño and cilantro. As part of Mohawk's "Authors Worth Celebrating" series, Mattern will also be on hand to talk about the inspiration for the food, answer questions and sign her new cookbook, Nom Yourself. The four-course meal is $40 (drink pairings are extra) and tickets can be reserved online.

'Back to the Future Part II' (Universal Studios)
WEDNESDAY, OCT. 21

'Back To The Future' Day at Smog City Brewery

There's plenty going on this week to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Back To The Future Part II, and on Wednesday, Smog City Brewery will be hosting a special event for the actual day that Marty arrived in the future. From 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., their taproom will be pouring a special beer release, the 1.21 Gigawatts Triple IPA, inspired by Doc Brown's flux capacitor, along with a couple other special BTTF-inspired kegs. They'll also be projecting the trilogy up on the wall throughout the night and...they're promising a "hoverboard." What exactly that will entail, remains to be seen. Show up in your best Back To The Future gear and get $1 off full pours all night.

The Ceviche Project at Skybar at Mondrian

We're already fans of the extravagant The Ceviche Project pop-up dinners and this Thursday they'll be hosting the last one of the season on the rooftop of this Sunset Strip hotel. In addition to their bold ceviche experiments, oysters, crudo and other treats from their multi-course menu, guests will also enjoy tastings from DeLeón Tequila and unique cocktail pairings throughout the night. The $125 price tag per person may seem heavy, but when you account of the caliber and quantity of the dishes and cocktails—not to mention stunning views of the surrounding city—it's a pretty special treat. Tickets can be purchased online.
