Candy and Cocktails: 5 Sweet Halloween Tastings To Trick or Treat Your Taste Buds

Ever wondered what wine goes best with candy bars? Gary Vaynerchuk did, and it made him famous. Instead of having to listen to his abrasive voice to find out the answer, three local events going on around town this Halloween will help you figure out what booze go best with your favorite sweets. Here's what's shakin':
Vintage Enoteca's sweets and sips: Vaynerchuk would be proud of Vintage Enoteca's pairing of both the high and low brow. Sour Patch Kids and Almond get matched up with Joy Renardat-Fâche “Cerdon du Bugey,” Sparkling Rosé from France, and Kit Kat and 3 Muskateers get the treatment of Teira Merlot from Sonoma County. Heath Bars, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and candy corn also get matched up with vino at this event, which runs $25 per person. The tasting will take place on Halloween night from 7 p.m. onward. Colonial Wine Bar's candy pairings: David Haskell will be busting out items from his cellar to pair with traditional Halloween sweets like Whoppers and Reeses Peanut Butter Cups to create a truly unique experience for your palate. Haskell is known for combining disassociated flavors together to create something entirely different, and this little tasting he'll be using eonophile alchemy to conjure up flavors like cherry milkshakes or peanut butter sandwiches. Consider it his very own version of trick or treat. The candy pairings will take place nightly from now until Halloween. Compartes chocolates and Cecconi's cocktails: Compartes is offering fall flavors of their elegantly playful truffles like pumpkin, pecan pie, Mexican chocolate, fleur de sel, and olive oil and rosemary to be paired with Chris Ojeda's cocktails. Some of the drinks on offer include the hot pumpkin buttered rum, which we included in our Virtual Happy Hour column last week. Hangar 24's beer and chocolate pairings: Hangar 24 Craft Brewery is teaming up with San Diego’s Renowned Chocolatier David Bacco to host a craft beer and chocolate pairings event this evening from 7-8:30 p.m. on the patio their brewery in Redlands, California. There will be six pairings of seasonal beers and chockies, which is a steal for the $25 ticket price. Visit their site for more info.
JW Marriott's "Trick or Treat" cocktail menu: JW Marriott's Downtown cocktail lounge called the Mixing Room is offering nostalgic Halloween flavors in their drinks including candy corn and pumpkin. There's a candy corn martini mixed with orange liqueur, lemon, egg white, house made candy corn infused vodka, and candy corn garnish, as well as the great pumpkin, a blend of cinnamon- and cardamom-infused Buffalo Trace bourbon. Drinks are $14 each and are available through Halloween night.
