Blue Bottle Has Begun Construction On Their New Bradbury Building Location

By Oren Peleg
After announcing plans to open a second downtown outpost—followed by a year of radio silence—Blue Bottle Coffee has finally begun building out their space in the Bradbury Building, according to the Downtown News.
The Oakland-based hipster coffee staple first entered the Los Angeles market with their 2014 acquisition of Arts District native Handsome Coffee. Handsome’s Mateo Street roastery was converted into the first L.A. Blue Bottle location. The company has since pushed into Echo Park, Culver City, Beverly Boulevard, and Venice Beach.
In June 2015, the Financial Times broke news that Blue Bottle had signed a lease for a space at the historic Bradbury Building on the corner of 3rd and Broadway. The iconic 1893 structure was made famous in such films as Blade Runner and 500 Days of Summer.
Blue Bottle’s pursuit of artisanal dominance led to the April 2015 purchase of San Francisco bakery Tartine. SFist reports that Tartine will open its first Los Angeles outpost in the Arts District by the end of 2017.
Meanwhile, construction is underway to transform the Bradbury Building's former Sprint Mobile store into the latest Blue Bottle outpost. An opening date has yet to be announced, though we predict long lines and a wave of Instagram posts.
