Young Girl Scout Petitions for GMO-Free Cookies
Alicia Serratos should certainly be getting a leadership badge from her local troop leader. The young girl from Orange County has started up a Change.org petition to get the Girl Scouts to stop producing cookies made with GMO products.
So far the petition has only reached 100 signatures, but as seen with the Easy Bake Oven petition made by the young boy earlier this year, these things can easily pick up steam and make a difference. His petition ended up reaching 40,000 signatures and being endorsed by several celebrity chefs, and he was eventually invited to help design the new Hasbro toy.
Of course, GMOs have been a controversial issue here in California. On last year's ballots, the state shut down Prop 37and opted not to have them labeled. But perhaps Serratos will find the support she needs to get this one pushed through.
Maybe Serratos should talk to Honey Boo Boo, who seems to have some serious clout when it comes to Girl Scout cookies.
