Our Pick: Cymbals Eat Guitars, Bear in Heaven, Freelance Whales @ The Echo

Tonight Kansas City-bred Grammy Award-nominated pop singer-songwriter Janelle Monae will be concluding a two-night stint at the Viper Room in Hollyweird. Houston-bred folk singer-songwriter Devendra Banhart is poised to headline the Wiltern. And, lastly, Rhode Island-bred folk act the Low Anthem (LAist Interview) will be gracing Largo at the Coronet. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Echo to catch Queens' own indie pop buzz band Freelance Whales, who will be traversing America again shortly hereafter, opening up for the Shout Out Louds at noticeably larger venues. Brooklyn-based psych-tinged indie rock outfit Bear in Heaven, who are fresh on the hells of a wildly successful SXSW stint, are slated to kick things off.

You can find these listings as well as the rest of the week's in our weekly Week In Rock post, which (generally) goes up every Sunday.
