This Saturday, more than 20 artists will transform a 15,000 square foot space in downtown LA into the ultimate cosmic playground for GALAXY: Science. Art. Party. The party kicks off at 4 pm at the LA Mart (11th floor), with “The Planetary Hour” at 6 pm featuring a live chat and Q&A with former TV host Bill Nye the Science Guy.

Taking a cue from the space shuttle Endeavour and Mars Rover news stories, the space-themed annual winter art show by cARTel commissioned several artists, including Marajuku and Purgatory Collective, to imagine their version of a new planet.

Guests can explore an interactive solar system (complete with a space ship), art installations, live music by retro-electro witchpop group Professor Possessor and other bands, and food from Starry Kitchen and Cali Bahn Mi- not to mention sweets from Cakes Come True. Drinks from Angel City Brewing and Stacked Wine will also be served.

Held on the 11th floor of the LA Mart, entrance times are staggered, 4-7 pm, 7-9 pm, and 9 pm-12:30 am, but guests are allowed to come and go as they please all day once entering. General admission is $11 and VIP tickets are $20.

The video below shows a few of the performers and installation artists expected on Saturday:

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our connected community. We are free to tell the full truth, to hold power to account without fear or favor, and to follow facts wherever they lead. Our only loyalty is to our audiences and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen our community.

Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive from readers like you will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
