A man was found beaten to death in a downtown Los Angeles parking lot early Friday morning.

The victim was found by authorities at around 2 a.m. on Friday in a parking lot near 7th Street and Main Street downtown, LAPD Officer Mike Lopez told LAist. The man is believed to have been between 50 and 60 years of age. The victim was struck several times in the head by an unknown attacker using some kind of object.

Sources familiar with the investigation "said it was possible that the victim and the attacker were both homeless, as the area is used for sleeping overnight," according to the L.A. Times.
