You're on Candid Camera
LAist took a stroll down Hollywood Boulevard to check out the contested and politically touted surveillance cameras that were installed this week along the famed and troubled street. We're not surprised that the Hollywood BID has employed stealth placement tactics as part of this $103,000 project, which includes cameras at Vine, Highland, Cahuenga, Whitley, and Sycamore.
At the intersection of Whitley, we initially couldn’t even locate the alleged crime-deterring device until a tall ladder and installation specialist was noticed in front of Frederick’s of Hollywood, tucked between the shocking pink awnings. Either we’ve mistaken the Police-Cam location for this one, or perhaps it's the lingerie palace’s own private system to ward off would-be panty thieves?
Yet again the line between private and public security and civil liberties is blurred. But LAist eagerly awaits the next round of neighborhood crime stats.
