Today is World AIDS Day, and our community, along with other cities around the world, will mark this day of remembrance in a variety of ways:

- The City of West Hollywood will be commemorating World AIDS Day with a candlelight vigil tonight,
on Santa Monica Boulevard at Crescent Heights.

After the vigil, the city will present the Paul Andrew Starke Warrior Award, which honors a volunteer or employee of agencies which provide AIDS related services to the West Hollywood community.

- The City of Los Angeles will hold a memorial ceremony at the corner of First and Grand from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. this morning. The ceremony will end in a release of red ballons. Free HIV tests will also be available for low-income residents. For testing locations, call (800) 367-AIDS.

- In addition, Adelphia Cable will present AIDSWatch, a day long electronic tribute to the victims of HIV/AIDS. To add a name, visit their website here.
