We Want the Truth

The California State Assembly must have plenty of free time on their hands. Otherwise, how else would Tom Umberg of Garden Grove get to introduce the "Truth in Sports Advertising Act"? The bill was unanimously approved today, by the state assembly's Committee on Arts, Entertainment, Sports, Tourism and Internet Media (say that six times fast), and will now come to a vote before the full assembly.
The bill would require all California teams named for a different geographical area from where they play, to put a disclaimer on all tickets and advertisements.
So those big Angel billboards around the city would now read at the bottom: "DISCLAIMER: The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim actually play their home games in Anaheim, which is definitely not Los Anegeles."

It's times like these when we're glad the Los Angeles Lakers left The Forum in Inglewood for Downtown LA.
Honestly, this is getting absurd. Does this mean the LA Galaxy, who play their home games in Carson, require a similar disclaimer? If Pasadena is awarded an NFL team, what kind of disclaimer would that require? Could this hurt the effort of any team that wants to move to Southern California, but has a stadium option just outside the city limits? And what about the Golden State Warriors? Do we all need to be reminded that they play in Oakland?
And let's not get started about UCLA football season.
Face it, Anaheim. You blew it. You lost. Arte Moreno outsmarted you. The language in the lease is crystal clear. Moreno's team can be the LA Angels of Anaheim all it wants, and it's better off for it. Don't mess with sports in the whole state just to get your way.
