A protest against police brutality following the death of Kelly Thomas began around 4 p.m. in Hollywood Saturday night.

Monday Night Mission planned to gather 5,000 Angelenos for the protest at the intersection of Hollywood Blvd. and Vine St. via a Facebook event page.

Protests have taken place around the Southland after two police officers involved in the fatal beating of Kelly Thomas were found not guilty in January. The fatal beating of the 37-year-old schizophrenic homeless man in 2011 and subsequent trial unleashed a flood of nationwide rage over the incident.
