UC Berkeley Student Goes Missing Near USC Campus

Congress has cut federal funding for public media — a $3.4 million loss for LAist. We count on readers like you to protect our nonprofit newsroom. Become a monthly member and sustain local journalism.

The search continues for a UC Berkeley student who disappeared after leaving a house party near the USC campus.Police say Eloi Vasquez left the party around 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning on the 600 block of West 28th Street, telling friends he wanted to go for a walk. According to NBC 4, he told friends over the phone that wanted to go to the beach. He later called a friend in Northern California at 2:18 that morning, telling her he was lost and "screwed."

"Everyone knows how responsible he is," Vasquez's mother Wendy Margolin said. "He hasn't contacted anyone since. Something is going on with him." Vasquez left the party without his ID or any money, and his phone has since died.

The Cal student is a freshman who also plays for the school's soccer team.

Eloi Vasquez is described as a Hispanic male with black hair and brown eyes. He is 6 feet tall and weighs around 175 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white and red t-shirt (as seen in the photo above), grey pants, and white tennis shoes.

We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.

LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.

We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.

No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.

Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.
