Female High School Teacher Arrested After Allegedly Having Student's Baby
Two weeks after giving birth, a female English teacher has been arrested since it appears the father of the child is one of her teenage students.
Laura Elizabeth Whitehurst, 28, was arrested Monday at her home in Redlands. She allegedly began having sex last summer with the then-16-year-old victim, whom she advised at Citrus Valley High School.
Officials contacted police after receiving a tip from the boy's mother, according to CBS News. The boy is now 17.
According to KTLA, a former male student has come forward, saying he also had an inappropriate relationship with Whitehurst in 2007 when she was a teacher at Redlands High School.
Whitehurst has been placed on leave, even though school is not in session and she presumably was already on maternity leave.
She was released from jail Monday on $25,000 bail. Police told KTLA that Whitehurst was "remorseful, but cooperative." It's not clear who has custody of her child, who was born on June 18.
A Lifetime movie is surely in the works.
