Talking the Talk

Our June member drive is live: protect this resource!
Right now, we need your help during our short June member drive to keep the local news you read here every day going. This has been a challenging year, but with your help, we can get one step closer to closing our budget gap. Today, put a dollar value on the trustworthy reporting you rely on all year long. We can't hold those in power accountable and uplift voices from the community without your partnership.

DCist editor Rob Godspeed is live blogging the Take Back America conference this week and caught our Mayor-Elect taking it to the attendees for their lack of diversity and lack of effort in developing a plan for our struggling cities:

“You look in this room today and you don’t see the strong diversity we need.”
“Neither party is talking about an urban agenda. Neither party is talking about how to improve our cities.”
“When we come to a conference like this and rejoice in the harmony of our message, and look around and we don’t see the faces of a changing America, we must ask ourselves, ‘are we reaching everyone we should?’ “
“America is a great place.” thinks that Villairagosa isn't likely to get much support for his call to progressives to work with "the other side...they got elected to" at this conference where one of the sessions is titled: "The Most Corrupt Congress: Time to Clean the Stables".
