Silence of the Quack?
We apologize for the hockey post in advance, but there are some interesting happenings in Anaheim. At a press conference to announce the hiring of new GM Brian Burke (which we disagree with, but that will come in a future post), new Ducks owners Henry and Susan Samueli admitted they are considering a name change.No, that doesn't mean they'll become the Mighty Ducks of Los Angeles of Anaheim. Assuming there is a hockey a season, the Samuelis have said they will listen to the fans to and determine next year if their hockey team should still be named after a fun Disney movie that had one bad sequel, and one really bad sequel.
"That's definitely been a topic of discussion," Henry Samueli said. "For this coming season, there will be no change. We've decided to let the fans have input. We'll open it up this year and see what the fans want to do. "We do like the name. And we like the logo. One possibility is to just be the Ducks. It's not something we have a great desire to change."
Regardless, if we are going to see a name change, LAist has a few suggestions. For one, Mighty Ducks isn't even the best Disney ice hockey movie. That distinction belongs to Miracle. So about the Anaheim Miracle? Or, LAist always liked the name of the old Anaheim Arena Football team, the Anaheim Piranhas. How about reviving that nickname? Or what if they were just called the Anaheim Ducks, without the "Mighty?"
What do you think? Stick with the Mighty Ducks, or change? And if they do change, what should the Anaheim NHL team be called?
