Shots Fired At Fashion Island, Prompting Lockdown
One person was taken into custody after shots were fired in a parking lot outside the Fashion Island Macy's in Newport Beach this evening. The shooting prompted at least parts of the Orange County mall to go on lockdown.
Newport Beach police told NBC Los Angeles that shots were fired outside Macy's and that one man has been taken into custody. The shooting was reported at around 4:30 pm this afternoon, according to the Los Angeles Times. No injuries were reported, fortunately.
Shoppers at the mall tweeted out information about the shooting while they were on lockdown at stores including Macy's and Nordstrom while authorities looked for the shooter:
My mom, son, and I are shopping at Fashion Island and we heard gun shots we're hiding in the restroom.
