Two people were shot following a "violent attack" between three people at an apartment complex near Cal State Northridge, police say.

KTLA reports that around 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning, police responded to a call regarding shots fired on the 9800 block of Zelzah Avenue. When they arrived, they found one person who had been shot, and another "battered," according to City News Service.

The L.A. Times writes that the shooting may have been tied to a fight overheard in the apartment building. One caller reported hearing fighting, and three gunshots fired.

According to City News Service, authorities said one suspect was being held and questioned, but were seeking a second suspect. A perimeter was set up around the area, and a portion of White Oak Avenue was also closed. NBC L.A. notes that police advised people to avoid the area east of Cal State Northridge campus while they search for the outstanding suspect.
