Photos: Police Pursuit Ends With Crash Into Popular Venice Restaurant
A car chase in Venice came to a smashing end last night when the truck being pursued by the Los Angeles Police Department slammed into a popular restaurant.
The pursuit began at about 8:30 Sunday night at Speedway and 20th Street, and lasted just a few minutes, according to City News Service. According to authorities, the driver, a parolee, made an illegal U-Turn, triggering the police response, reports ABC7.
In the brief few minutes of the chase, the driver managed to strike a cyclist, who suffered injuries including a broken leg, and then slammed into Wurstküche, a popular eatery, where a few patrons suffered injuries. Ultimately the cyclist, three restaurant diners, and the suspect himself were sent to the hospital for treatment.
The driver will be booked on suspicion of felony hit and run and felony evading when he is released from the hospital.
The restaurant was shut down, and sustained structural damage; the truck crashed through the glass and panel wall.
