Ottawa Can't Duck the Ducks - Game 2 Tonight @ 5 pm
Game 2 goes tonight at the Honda Center as superstar Travis Moen and the Anaheim Ducks host Ray "Don Magic" Emery and the Ottawa Senators. All the buzz thus far has been about how Anaheim's top checking line of Sammy Pahlsson, Rob Niedermayer and Travis Moen have outplayed Ottawa's top scoring line of Jason Spezza, Dany Heatley and Daniel Alfredsson.
Nuts to all that sports talk gibberish.
The real story is how there is no story. Outside of a few frisky legislators north of the border (the Canadian one), the buzz surrounding this Final has been minimal.
In this vein, the Canadian Press ran a sweet story yesterday. Live from Newport Beach, we join a super baked skateboarder:
"I'm cheering for the other guys to beat the Ducks because I am a Red Wings fan," he said to hoots of derision from his friends. "I predict Ottawa will win it in three.
Now if you found that amusing, then you classify one step above a guppy on the evolutionary scale. If you are wondering what's so wrong with Ottawa winning the Cup in 3 games, then I hope someone cleans your tank on a regular basis.
Here's three reasons why I'm going to tune in tonight:
3. A half decent anthem singer. If the Ducks roll out Mike Reno I'm going to snap.
2. Shots of C List Hollywood stars. Oh please God let Emilio Estevez be in attendance. I would die of ironic bemusement.
1. It's really freakin' good hockey. Seriously.
And that's no joke. I know I've been poking fun at the coverage this series has received, but in all honesty this series is the hidden gem of the current Los Angeles sports scene.
If you get channel 6243 or whatever Versus is on, tune in to the hometown Ducks tonight at 5 pm.
If you don't, Emilio will Flying V your ass.
As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.
Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.
We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.
No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.
Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.
Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
