A driver was killed this morning when their car became trapped beneath a big rig trailer.

Just before 8:30 a.m. this morning, a car traveling on the northbound 5 freeway in the Newhall Pass of Santa Clarita collided with the rear end of a big rig, reports KTLA. The truck was apparently stopped and the vehicle went underneath the truck, crushing the top portion of the car.

When California Highway Police officers arrived shortly after, the driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene, according to CBS LA. The driver's identity has not been released, pending family notification. No other injuries were reported and the cause of the crash is under investigation.

The incident occurred just north of the eastbound 14 Freeway connector. Fire officials requested that the northbound 5 truck lanes to the eastbound 14 be closed completely until further notice.
