The Orange County woman who tossed her 7-month-old baby to his death is scheduled for a mental health hearing this morning to determine whether or not she is fit to stand trial.Sonia Hermosillo, 31, threw her baby off the fourth floor of a parking garage at Children's Hospital Orange County last August, and she has since been charged with murder and child abuse. The court has appointed two psychologists to determine whether she is fit to assist in her own defense, according to KPCC. If she is not, she will go to a state mental hospital for treatment before returning to court.

Hermosillo had been held in a solitary cell in the psychiatric ward of an Orange County jail. Her husband said that she had a history of mental illness, including postpartum depression. She was reportedly distraught that her son was born with a disability that forced him to wear a helmet and receive physical therapy at the hospital.

At a press conference after his son's death, Hermosillo's husband Noe Medina said, "She didn't do it on purpose. She didn't know what she was doing."
