Michael Douglas Calls the Kettle Black...

Are there classes--like "Opening mouth, inserting foot 101" or "How to revive a flailing career or image"-- that celebs must take? Last year it was Tom Cruise on Oprah, then Tom Cruise chastizing Brooke Shields and psychology; this year we have former Basic Instinct stars trying to rage against the dying of the light (also known as obscurity in Hollywood).

If you haven't heard, Sharon Stone will be posing nude in the Basic Insinct sequel. Yeah yeah. Naked. Whatever. And now, her co-star Michael Douglas is trying to drum up his own publicity for his latest flick by picking on some A-list celebslike Brad Pitt and Angelina, Renee Zellweger and Julia Roberts. Way to make friends, Mike!

According to an Associated Press story:

Support for LAist comes from

"I don't know about Brad Pitt, leaving that beautiful wife to go hold orphans for Angelina," Douglas snipes in GQ's April issue, hitting newsstands March 21. "I mean, how long is that going to last?"

Pitt and ex-wife Jennifer Aniston divorced in October 2005. Since then, Pitt has adopted Jolie's children, Maddox and Zahara, and is expecting a child with the bombshell actress this summer... The 61-year-old Douglas also took swipes at actresses Renee Zellweger and Julia Roberts: "I mean, don't ask me what happened with Renee Zellweger. I don't know how you get married for four months. And Julia with Lyle."

Unfortunately, the AP story doesn't delve into how Douglas has such an authoritative voice on the subject. So for those of you who are young enough to know Douglas only as Mr. Catherine Zeta-Jones, here's his background in a nutshell from Wikipedia:

In 2000, after 23 years of marriage, Diandra divorced Douglas, complaining of his womanizing, absenteeism, and not being a proper father to Cameron. That same year, Douglas married actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, who is exactly 25 years younger than he is. Douglas has been married to Zeta-Jones since November 18, 2000. They have two children, Dylan (born 2000-08-08) and Carys (born 2003-04-20).

Mike, maybe you should take the "Mind your own business class" and skip the second semester of that foot-in-mouth class. Just a suggestion.

As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.

Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.

We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.

No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.

Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.

Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
