Dead Dog Found Off Marina Del Rey Appears To Be Intentionally Drowned (Disturbing Photo)

Warning, some may find the photo at the bottom of this story disturbing.Paddleboarders in Marina Del Rey made a grisly discovery on Wednesday morning when they found a dead dog that appeared to be intentionally drowned.
Fox 11 reporter Malia Zimmerman was one of the paddleboarders who were returning to shore at Mother's Beach early Wednesday morning when they noticed the handle of a shovel sticking out of the water, only about 15 feet from shore. When one of the paddleboarders waded into the water to investigate, they discovered the body of a small dog that was tied to it. Zimmerman and her boarding companion moved the shovel and dog to shore, according to Fox 11 and called authorities.
"Sometimes people can be extraordinarily cruel," Zimmerman wrote in a Facebook post later that day.
Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies and officers with Los Angeles County Animal Control are investigating the incident. They believe the dog was was tied to the shovel during low tide, and the water slowly rose to drown the animal, according to the L.A. Times.
The dog wore identification tags, but authorities have yet to find the owner. The motive also remains unclear. "We are looking into that right now. We're still trying to be in contact with the owner," Sheriff's Sgt. Jeff Slutske told the Daily Breeze.
