Streets Near LAX Still Closed After Manhole Explosion
The third-busiest airport in the nation, our very own LAX, is no doubt starting to get even more overwhelmed with holiday travelers by now. And arriving and departing there just got a little more complicated.
City News Service says a manhole explosion was reported at the intersection of La Tijera and Sepuleveda boulevards at 11:40 a.m. As a result, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power cut power to 448 customers in the immediate vicinity to assess and repair the damage from the underground vault fire.
Ellen Cheng of the LADWP told LAist that southbound Sepulveda Boulevard between West Manchester Avenue and Sepuevda Eastway, and westbound South La Tijera Boulevard between Sepulveda Way and Sepulveda Boulevard are both closed. As of 3 p.m. there is no estimate for re-opening.
The Daily Breeze reports that no one was injured as a result of the explosion. Drivers heading to LAX are advised to find alternate routes around the area.
Thanksgiving is the busiest time of year for travel, and this year is projected to have the most Southern Californians traveling since 2007.
