The Long Beach Fire Department has issued a shark advisory after sighting 10-20 juvenile Great White sharks in the waters off the Peninsula beach. In a statement, the LBFD explains how the sightings are consistent with the sightings in the spring of 2016 and that none of the sharks are displaying aggressive behaviors. The advisory currently goes through the weekend, and officials will re-evaluate Monday whether to keep it in effect, according to City News Service. Long Beach Marine Safety Chief Gonzalo Medina told CNS "People are allowed to swim; beaches are open, but we want the public to be informed."

Waters off the California coast are warm and abundant with food, creating the perfect environment for young sharks to feed, according to the L.A. Times. Last week, a shark bit a woman off the coast at San Onofre State Beach, and she still remains in critical condition at the hospital, according to City News Service.

The signs line the coast in order to alert beach-goers of the sightings and ensure everyone takes precautionary measures when entering the water.
