LAist Shops for the Holidays: Sumo Lounge

Stories like these are only possible with your help!
Your donation today keeps LAist independent, ready to meet the needs of our city, and paywall free. Thank you for your partnership, we can't do this without you.

LAist has a few friends that fall into that "people who have everything" category that are always insanely hard to shop for so we jump at the chance to check out something that you won't find shooping in Target or at the local mall. This year, we've had a month to lay around on the Sumo Lounge Omni (sumo's site seems t o be down now) and find it very comfortable, perfect for the game room with the TV and the gamecube rocking Mario Kart Double Dash.

If only it wasn't so dang ugly.

Wait, that's not true. It isn't exactly ugly, it is just large and gaudy and doesn't work well with our hardwood floors. Maybe it looks better on carpet or in a more stylized home than our far from avant garde design sensibilities. We couldn't find a place for it that looked quite right. When we weren't sitting on it, it was just kind of in the way.

But it is surprisingly comfortable and reshapes as necessary. We're just not sure we'd pony up $200 for it to give to someone unless we were absolutely sure it was right for their house and their sensibilities. Ignore the dust under our couch in the picture above and notice that the chair is about as long as the couch and takes up more floor space when laid flat out.

So yeah, Sumo is fun but definitely not right for everyone.

Our search for holiday gifts continues on.
