Los Angeles traffic officers have been caught slacking on the job while earning taxpayer money.

L.A. Department of Transportation officers manage car flow and enforce traffic laws throughout the city -- a job they say only gets harder. They even complained about their working condition to the City Council last month, CBS2 reports.

But while the officers were complaining, hidden cameras caught some of them going anything but their jobs. According to CBS, officers were seen spending hours at home, shopping and at restaurants during shifts.

"One officer came home numerous times and parked in the alley behind his house during work. Another officer was seen shopping at Target while on duty. When he left, he wrote a quick ticket on a car parked outside the store and then went to Costco, where he stayed for almost an hour.

A male officer was caught parked on the side of the street for hours at a time, seemingly doing nothing. He then wrote a couple of tickets."

The department is looking into GPS systems so it can keep track of officers. Mayor Eric Garcetti wasn't exactly pleased when he was informed of the investigation.

“This doesn’t just anger me as a mayor, this pisses me off as a taxpayer,” Garcetti told CBS.
