Sacramento hospital patient being tested for Ebola
A Sacramento patient is being tested for Ebola, according to a statement sent to KPCC from Kaiser Permanente's Dr. Stephen M. Parodi, an infectious diseases specialist.
The patient, who may have been exposed to the Ebola virus, was admitted to the Kaiser Permanente South Sacramento Medical Center, according to the release. The patient's blood is being tested by the Centers for Disease Control.
"In order to protect our patients, staff and physicians, even though infection with the virus is unconfirmed, we are taking the actions recommended by the CDC as a precaution," Parodi said in the release. "This includes isolation of the patient in a specially equipped negative pressure room and the use of personal protective equipment by trained staff."
The results of the test aren't expected to come in for several days, according to the Sacramento County Department of Health and Human Services, KCRA reports.
