Pomona SWAT officer shot in San Gabriel

A Pomona SWAT officer was shot early Tuesday while police were serving a search warrant in San Gabriel. He was identified at a Tuesday afternoon press conference as Shaun Diamond.
Diamond was transported to Pasadena's Huntington Memorial Hospital, where he was in extremely critical condition, according to Nicole Nishida, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, which is investigating the case.
Diamond was hit in the upper torso, Nishida said, not the face, contrary to other reports. He may have been hit in the back of the head, according to Pomona Police Chief Paul Capraro, though he was wearing a kevlar helmet. Officers did not return fire but managed to take the suspect into custody, according to Nishida.
Officials could not say what type of weapon the suspect used, but they did say the search warrant was one of several being served at multiple locations Tuesday.
The person arrested Tuesday morning is 36-year old David Martinez, Nishida said. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder of a police officer.
Martinez was booked for attempted murder of a peace officer and is being held on $4 million bail, according to the Sheriff's Department. Nishida said he has a criminal history that includes domestic violence and assault with a deadly weapon.
The shooting happened during a multi-agency multi-location search warrant operation that had to do with local motorcycle gang, Nishida said.

Nishida said Diamond is a 16-year-veteran, previously serving with the Los Angeles Police Department. He has been with Pomona's police department since 2006, Lt. Hector Rodriguez of the Pomona Police Department told KPCC, and a Pomona SWAT officer since 2008, Nishida said.
