Traffic officers with the L.A.County Sheriff's Department and the San Gabriel Police have begun a preliminary investigation into a possible felony hit-and-run collision Saturday afternoon involving U.S. Commerce Secretary John Bryson.
A statement from the sheriff’s department released early Monday morning says Bryson’s Lexus was heading south on San Gabriel Boulevard when it rear-ended a car that had stopped for a passing train.
Bryson spoke with three men who were in the other car, a Buick. As he drove away, his car struck the Buick again. The three men got back in their car to follow Bryson, and called the San Gabriel Police for help.
Bryson continued driving on south on San Gabriel Boulevard into Rosemead, where he allegedly collided with another car at Hellman Avenue a few minutes later.

Sheriff’s deputies found Bryson alone and unconscious at the wheel of his car. The 68-year-old former chief of energy giant Edison International was treated at the scene by L.A. County Fire paramedics. They took him to a local hospital where he was admitted for treatment for non life-threatening injuries. His condition is not known.
Two of the three men in the car involved in the first collision complained of pain after the collision and were treated by paramedics. The man and woman in the second vehicle that was struck were not injured.
The sheriff’s department says there’s no indication that alcohol or drugs played a role in the collisions. Bryson’s vehicle is now in storage with the San Gabriel Police Department.
Bryson was sworn in as commerce secretary last October.
