There's a weird sensation that all LA hoops fans are feeling right now. It feels like something is missing. Like something is absent in our lives. We feel cold, alone, uncomfortable, and empty. What is this sensation? The Lakers aren't in the playoffs.

Yes, this is normally the time of year where we're mildly concerned with Portland or Houston, and how Shaq might match up against someone like Arvydas Sabonis. Sacramento and San Antonio are usually on the horizon. Maybe a Minnesota in some years.

But now the NBA playoffs are going on. LA teams are nowhere to be seen. And quite frankly, we just don't care. Sure, the Phoenix Suns are fun to watch, but no one really believes they'll go far in the playoffs. The Spurs might very well be the best team in the NBA, but Tim Duncan's utter refusal to have a personality makes them as uninspiring as a Delaware Travel Book.

As for the East, that's just too painful to watch as Shaq romps through the brackets in Miami Heat red and yellow, and Detroit brings back memories of the 2004 NBA Finals.

Do we really love this game? Maybe we just love the Lakers.
