Eating Dust: High Winds Close Roads to Palm Springs
That quick drive to a Memorial Day Weekend getaway in Palm Springs was not so easy for some as high winds and blowing sand led to road closures across the Coachella Valley.
Three major Palm Springs thoroughfares were closed at Whitewater Wash Saturday night as wind gusts up to 60 mph led to white-out conditions. Gene Autry Trail and Vista Chino reopened earlier Sunday but North Indian Canyon was expected to remain closed until at least Tuesday as the road is cleared.
We tried to get to PS via North Indian Canyon Dr. on Saturday but didn't stand a chance. Video below:
Palm Springs-bound MDW revelers from L.A. have had at least one open road all weekend via the CA-111 exit on the eastbound 10 freeway. Strong winds were expected to continue across the L.A. region tonight with 40-45 mph gusts expected.
