For all those who ever wondered if they could join the LAist team (and get paid for it!) we've got an upcoming opportunity to join our team. LAist is going to need a temporary writer/editor for 10-12 weeks while our Editor, Lindsay, is on her maternity leave. The job will begin on or around May 1, and run through August 1, with a possible extension to August 15.

Here's what the job entails: You'll be on an established schedule working 4-5 days per week, producing predominately on-demand posts during regular posting hours, which are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.). There is opportunity to produce original work, photographic essays, researched long-range items, interviews and other blog-specific fare as well. It's a telecommuting job (however we do ask you be in L.A.), so you will be working from home or whichever WiFi enabled cafe or library you prefer. This is a paid freelance position.

Requirements: At least one year of full-time pro blogging/online publishing experience, an instinct for what's newsworthy, a ferocious drive, a keen interest in Los Angeles and working knowledge of the city and region, a sense of humor, and the stamina to create 6-8 well-written and interesting posts per day while having a hand in daily operations, including social media and occasionally managing contributors' work. A highly qualified candidate will have familiarity/experience with social media practices, photo sourcing and editing skills, blog-related tech troubleshooting skills, an understanding of SEO and web traffic considerations, as well as a polished writing style and voice.
