Google 90210: Search Giant Opening Entertainment HQ in Beverly Hills

Less than 3 months after firming up a lease on at least 100,000 square feet of office space in 3 buildings surrounding the Frank Gehry-designed Binoculars in Venice, Google is buying up more prime office space, presumably to base its growing entertainment and YouTube operations closer to Hollywood.

Beverly Hills City Council approved Google's 11-year lease on 13,465 square feet of office space on the 4th floor of the city-owned building at 331 Foothill Rd. The deal will generate $6.3 million for the city, according to the BH Patch.

The building, designed by Culver City-based Erlich Architects, is LEED silver certified by the U.S. Green Buildings Council. Participant Media is currently a tenant on the 3rd floor.

Google is apparently committing $100 million to develop its entertainment and video content creation operations, according to the latest reports. What's next? YouTube set top boxes, Google busses to the beach and a free WiFi cloud for the Southland? We can dream....
