Osen Izakaya, the new izakaya concept from chef Damon Min Cho (who has worked in the kitchens of Nobu, Masa, and Matsuhisa), is set to open in the heart of Silver Lake on Saturday.
Osen takes over the former Aroma storefront in between Silver Lake Ramen and Silversun Liquor. As for the menu? “It’s better to be surprised,” Cho told Eater. However, the menu posted to the restaurant's website presents a seafood-heavy bend to classic izakaya fare. "The freshest seafood brought in daily and haute Japanese Izakaya cuisine," the site adds.
Osen will become the second izakaya to open this year in a part of town that previously had none. In February, Tsubaki opened along the eastern edge of Echo Park. What's more, with heavy-hitters like Night + Market Song, Fat Dragon, Same Same, Xoia, Pine & Crane, and neighboring Silver Lake Ramen, Cool L.A.'s main drag (re: Sunset Boulevard through Silver Lake and Echo Park) is becoming a real destination for Asian cuisine.
According to Yelp, the owners are promoting an "opening party" on Friday with free food between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.
