LAist in the Kitchen: Valentine's Day Cookies

Though we won't say that LAist is totally thrilled about the upcoming "holiday" this Tuesday, we do love having an excuse to spend the afternoon baking our hearts out in our tiny westside apartment kitchen.

We reached all the way to the back of our second drawer and pulled out the heart-shaped cookie cutter that only gets used once a year, dusted it with flour, and cut out cookies from a simple sugar cookie dough that we dyed with a few drops each of red, yellow and green food coloring. After baking the cookies for the appointed time at 350, we let them cool, tested a few of course, then sat down to pipe loving messages on each, just like those little candy hearts: Be Mine, I {heart} U, and Dreamy.

Unfortunately, decorating cookies is like our own little private therapy session, and what came out was how we really feel.
