With our free press under threat and federal funding for public media gone, your support matters more than ever. Help keep the LAist newsroom strong, become a monthly member or increase your support today.

Are you a bonafide beer geek? Well then, we have some news for you: The third annual L.A. Craft Beer Crawl is coming back to Downtown L.A. Saturday, August 18th. Over 50 craft beers will be poured for the sampling at Cedd Moses' bars, which include Casey's, Cole's, Seven Grand, Las Perlas, Caña, Broadway Bar, Tony's Saloon, and the Golden Gopher. The event is a collaboration between Moses, Hallie Beaune, and Christina Perozzi. Beaune and Perozzi, better known to the community as the Beer Chicks, will be on hand for various activities throughout the day. They have been consultants on Moses' bars since last August.

The crawl will feature some of the top craft and artisanal brewers in the country, all within stumbling distance of each other. Breweries so far include:

Allagash Brewing
Craftsman Brewing
Deschutes Brewery
Noble Ale Works
Uncommon Brewers
Ballast Point Brewing
Drake's Brewing
Bootlegger's Brewery
Brouwerij West
The Bruery
Hangar 24
Black Market Brewing
Cismontane Brewing
Green Flash Brewing
Smog City Brewing
Duvel/Brewery Ommegang
Eagle Rock Brewery
Ladyface Ale Companie
Beachwood Brewing
New Belgium Brewing
Strand Brewing Co.

In terms of specialty tasting sessions, the Beer Chicks will be hosting one on their favorite beers of the crawl, as well as a Scotch and craft beer pairing with Highland Park. There will also be a panel highlighting the Italian craft beer movement with beer expert Tomm Carroll. David "The Gueuzehound" Watrous of Beachwood BBQ will lead a class on sour beer. Get your tickets ($54 for general admission, $74 for early entrance) here.

At LAist, we believe in journalism without censorship and the right of a free press to speak truth to those in power. Our hard-hitting watchdog reporting on local government, climate, and the ongoing housing and homelessness crisis is trustworthy, independent and freely accessible to everyone thanks to the support of readers like you.

But the game has changed: Congress voted to eliminate funding for public media across the country. Here at LAist that means a loss of $1.7 million in our budget every year. We want to assure you that despite growing threats to free press and free speech, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust. Speaking frankly, the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news in our community.

We’re asking you to stand up for independent reporting that will not be silenced. With more individuals like you supporting this public service, we can continue to provide essential coverage for Southern Californians that you can’t find anywhere else. Become a monthly member today to help sustain this mission.

Thank you for your generous support and belief in the value of independent news.
