Ice Cream Updates: Matt Biancaniello at Scoops and a Liquid Nitro Shop Opening

Here are two sweet scoops of news to brighten up your day.
Matt Biancaniello Serving Up Boozy Scoops (Again): While we were throwing back some of Matt Biancaniello's craft cocktails over at Cliff's Edge last night, the barman told us that he'll be doing another pop-up over at Scoops Westside for round two next Saturday, March 16. As evidenced by the packed bar last night, Matt B has a cult-like following of cocktailians, so it's recommended that you get there early to try some of his booze-infused ice cream creations, like the Candy Cap Mushroom Bourbon Ice Cream drizzled with home made Nocino and topped with organic walnuts and rosemary flowers, pictured above. Each serve will go for $8, or you can do a full flight of all the flavors for $24. For more updates, you can stay in touch via his Facebook fan page.
L.A. Gets a Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream Shop: A new scoopery called the Ice Cream Lab will bring made-to-order liquid nitrogen ice cream to Los Angeles with the opening of its first location in Beverly Hills on March 15. In a concept similar to that of the poolside Neapolitan ice cream bar at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, folks will make ice creams on the spot with local ingredients. Flavors include: Angeles Apple Pie, made with cinnamon apples and graham crackers; Blue Velvet Cupcake, served with large chunks of blue velvet cupcake and sweet cream cheese icing; and Salt Lick Crunch, mixed with pretzel pieces, caramel and sea salt. The scoops will be offered in medium and large for $5 and $6, or as a milkshake in medium and large for $7 and $8. Hopefully the staff has been trained properly, because the last thing we need is an incident like the one in England, where a consumer had to have her stomach removed after consuming a cocktail where the nitrogen gas hadn't fully evaporated. At LAist, we believe in journalism without censorship and the right of a free press to speak truth to those in power. Our hard-hitting watchdog reporting on local government, climate, and the ongoing housing and homelessness crisis is trustworthy, independent and freely accessible to everyone thanks to the support of readers like you.
But the game has changed: Congress voted to eliminate funding for public media across the country. Here at LAist that means a loss of $1.7 million in our budget every year. We want to assure you that despite growing threats to free press and free speech, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust. Speaking frankly, the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news in our community.
We’re asking you to stand up for independent reporting that will not be silenced. With more individuals like you supporting this public service, we can continue to provide essential coverage for Southern Californians that you can’t find anywhere else. Become a monthly member today to help sustain this mission.
Thank you for your generous support and belief in the value of independent news.
