Truth matters. Community matters. Your support makes both possible. LAist is one of the few places where news remains independent and free from political and corporate influence. Stand up for truth and for LAist. Make your year-end tax-deductible gift now.

As we told you earlier this week, Saturday is the insanely popular Grilled Cheese Invitational and we've got some new details about food vendors and lines for you.

As grilled cheese competitors try to win approval of judges, festival goers can munch on the free food provided by sponsors, like Tillamook Cheese and other corporations, or hit the food court area. And that's where it gets exciting--here's the list of grilled cheese vendors who will be selling food at $2 to $3 a piece: World Fare (you know, the bustaurant) Border Grill, The Oaks Gourmet, Chef Eric Greenspan of The Foundry (he also plans to open his own grilled cheese restaurant), The American Grilled Cheese Kitchen from San Francisco, The Hot Knives food bloggers with their pop-up food truck, Campanile and for dessert, The Sweets Truck and Coolhaus.

As for the lines, organizer Tim Walker tells LAist this: "We've done everything in our power this year to reduce the lines getting into the event and the only lines you'll have right now is waiting for vendors for grilled cheese, and they have all been instructed to prepare for large amounts of people."

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our connected community. We are free to tell the full truth, to hold power to account without fear or favor, and to follow facts wherever they lead. Our only loyalty is to our audiences and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen our community.

Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive before year-end will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
